Elearning - what's new

Posted By Mary Gunther CCNL, Monday, September 21, 2015

What is elearning orientation?

How leaders learn from feedback.

This summer we were excited to roll out new technologies that made our eLearning Academy more accessible to more members. The new did also bring a learning curve.  There was great frustration experienced this summer by our cohort facilitators in OCC and our students in ALL our summer certifications as we unrolled the Google Classroom and the new forum for our online learning. In response to these frustrations, our Learning Academy Director, Eunice Au spent hours answering frantic calls and emails to trouble shoot for our students. Precious time reserved for course content was lost in helping people familiarize themselves with the online learning environment.

We've learned and are now offering the eLearning Orientation to save frustration for both online learners and our cohort leaders by creating simple assignments that gradually introduce the new technology to all our e-learning registrants. It offers tutorials in submitting assignments via the classroom, video footage on how to sign into the forum, and a live video conference with a national leader so our participants will have become familiar with the technology BEFORE the course begins.

Additionally, each registrant gets a unique iccinc.org address during this time so that they'll have an opportunity to use it before the more full-bodied course begins. This iccinc.org address provides a secure environment for sharing documents and spreadsheets. All of this takes a good amount of organizational time and resources to prepare and monitor.

The course is only taken once and "lasts" for as long as we use the same technology (we don't have any immediate plans to switch technology).

If you are considering any of our online courses in the future we hope you realize the minimal cost is a good investment of resources upfront to minimize frustrations once certification begins, helps students integrate into the e-learning environment right from the start, and provides a secure iccinc.org address for privacy during the classroom assignments. We are also very encouraged to provide this equipping BEFORE people get frustrated with the new technology.

Most of our online curriculum uses these three technologies:

  • Zoom Video Conferences
  • Google Classroom
  • The ICC Forum

This short module will equip you for being able to use the technology for our online learning. You will get an iccinc.org account to enable you to submit assignments. You will have access to Tech Support to make sure you can sign into your account and will submit some simple assignments designed to demonstrate basic competency in these technologies.

You should COMPLETE this course, before you register for other courses.

All who participated in Summer 2015 online certifications do not need to enroll in this course.

There is about 1 hour of video recordings and two hours of online assignments.

Cost: $ 15

When a student is given their new iccinc.org email address, will that address be permanent? Can they use that address for other ICC communication, or should they just limit it to use for the classroom?

The iccinc.org address is for all ICC related purposes. You retain that email address as long as you are affiliated with ICC chapters!

We prioritize the assigning of iccinc.org addresses for those who are enrolled in our e-learning courses.
